MAK @ GRAN TURISMO: MATTEO CRESSONI

Full loot for the MAK sponsored driver Matteo Cressoni and Team Iron Lynx, who graduated with flying colours in the demanding “university of motor racing” of Spa-Francorchamps, the scene of the fourth round of the ELMS (European Le Mans Series) championship. A victory sought and wanted to the very last metre, then certified by the race jury who imposed a 10-second penalty on the Porsche 911 RSR #16 of Team Proton Competiton, first under the chequered flag but guilty of a 2-second early start under a yellow flag.

The unusually sunny though cool day and the perfectly dry track promised skirmishes right from the start, and so it was. Ready for the start and a carambole between the leading cars forced the entry of the “safety car”, which lasted some 20 minutes before giving the green light to hostilities once again. At the end of the race there will be no less than five entries of the “safety car” due to various crashes. A sort of accordion that dilated and compressed the gaps between the cars.

In the midst of this bailamme, the Porsche 911 RSR #60 of Team Iron Lynx never lost sight of the leaders, determined more than ever to grab a well-deserved podium. The alternation of the three drivers and the tyre changes didn’t allow them to lose much ground, but neither did it to gain any, so when the podium seemed a chimera, the last “safety car” came on track and Matteo Cairoli once again threatened the provisional leadership of his Team Proton rivals.

The finish line saw the antagonist Porsche finish 599 thousandths ahead of the #60 of Team Iron Lynx, an already remarkable result given the start from 11th on the grid. However, the race judges didn’t get it right and realised the irregularity committed by the Porsche #16 and penalised it by 10 seconds, a margin more than sufficient for the Porsche 911 RSR #60 of Team Iron Lynx to win the competition.

In the overall standings, Team Iron Lynx rises to 61 points and grabs the top spot, co-habiting with rivals Team Proton Competition. The next two rounds of the championship, both on the Lusitanian track of Portimão on 20 and 22 October, promise sparks and strong emotions.
