MAK @ GRAN TURISMO: JACOPO GUIDETTI

The dream has finally come true. MAK Wheels-sponsored driver Jacopo Guidetti, together with his partner Leonardo Moncini, won the last race of the season at the Mugello racetrack, thus conquering the Italian GT Sprint Championship 2022 on board his Honda NSX GT3!
A well-deserved title, achieved with great talent, perseverance and determination, in perfect harmony with MAK’s values. Many, many congratulations from our entire team!

For Guidetti it is a result that repays the efforts of an entire year lived constantly in the top positions and that represents a triumphant consecration of the brilliant path begun in the world of covered wheels: initially in the TCR Italy and, since last year, in the reference Italian championship of Gran Turismo cars. An achievement made possible thanks to JAS Motorsport and all the partners who have provided support over the years and, above all, to the talent and determination of a young man who has never stopped believing for an instant in the possibility of achieving his goals.

Together with team-mate Leonardo Moncini and at the wheel of the Honda NSX GT3 Evo deployed by Nova Race, Guidetti ended the season with a haul of 101 points in the standings, the result of two victories and five podium finishes out of the eight races held. Numbers that certified the superiority of the Lombardy crew, who became the youngest ever to have won the title in the series organised by ACI Sport.

Having set off for Mugello with a small but important lead over his rivals, Guidetti had to handle the pressure of having to run a perfect, flawless weekend, aware of the importance of what was at stake. And so it was: after setting the fifth fastest time in his own qualifying session (missing the front row by less than a tenth), Jacopo got off to a fierce start in the first heat staged on Saturday 22 October, making an extraordinary start that allowed him to gain three positions in the first corner. A decisive move in the economy of the race, which thanks also to the excellent stint scored by Moncini saw the Nova Race crew finish on the third step of the podium.

The next day it was Moncini’s turn to manage the first part of the race, then yielding the steering wheel to the wild Guidetti in the decisive phase: after a first phase behind the Safety Car, Jacopo launched the decisive attack against the Audi of Notarnicola, immediately taking an important advantage and passing first under the checkered flag. At the end of the race, the joy exploded in the Nova Race box and on the podium, where the notes of the national anthem celebrated the triumph of the team.

Jacopo Guidetti: “It was an incredible season! We gave our best right from the first race, and in the end resilience and perseverance paid off, giving us the chance to celebrate the Italian title. I am really happy for this fantastic result that we achieved together with the team, all working in the same direction and with great perseverance. I would really like to thank all the Nova Race staff and of course also JAS Motorsport, who gave to me and my team mate the chance to be competitive and to express ourselves at our best. Finally we can say we are Italian champions with Honda: I am really proud to be part of this family and to have contributed to write a small chapter in the history of this glorious brand. I would also like to thank my sponsors, like MAK Wheels and my family, who have always supported me over the years. Now we enjoy this triumph, after which it will be time for me to think about the stage in the Thailand Super Series, where we want to fight for another title!”

Newly-crowned Italian champion Jacopo Guidetti will be back in action as early as next weekend, when he will be busy at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram for the third round of the Thailand Super Series, championship in which he currently occupies the role of leader of the ranking
