MAK @ HANDBIKE: MIRKO TESTA

MAK Sponsored athlete Mirko Testa has never liked to settle. Since he first got on a handbike in 2018, thanks to the Sport Therapy project for years carried out by Active Sport in collaboration with Brescia’s Domus Salutis, it has taken him little time to start winning. First he became Italian champion, then world champion, then he took the Brescia association to the Paralympics for the first time, and on Thursday in Paris he managed to place a medal around his neck, a bronze medal he won in the H3 category road race, the most competitive of all. On the Clichy-sous-Bois circuit, Testa finished behind the two Frenchmen Mathieu Bosredon and Johan Quaile, adding another huge satisfaction to an already long list.

‘Participating in a Paralympics,’ said the 1997 born Bergamasque, ’is already a wonderful experience, winning a medal makes it special. I came in as world champion, but getting results is never easy, so I am delighted with my third place. I am aware that I gave everything, so I have no regrets. Receiving the medal was an emotion that will stay with me forever: it repays me for all the sacrifices I made. The life of an athlete is made up of commitments and sacrifices, and not only of those who stand on the podium. I was determined to get a good result and here it is. I have worked so hard over the past few years and now I can say that it has been worth it, also thanks to the constant support of Active Sport which has supported me since day zero, since I first got on a handbike. At first I liked the sense of freedom, the idea of being able to go out on a bike with my friends. I would never have thought about competitions. Then everything changed. Six years later he has a Paralympic bronze medal around his neck, and watch out, it’s not over yet: on Saturday, together with compatriots Mestroni and Mazzone, Testa will be part of the Italian relay trio, hunting for another medal.
