MAK @ GRAN TURISMO: MATTEO CRESSONI

MAK Wheels sponsored driver Matteo Cressoni and the Iron Lynx Team in Algarve looking for the podium.
Following the tradition of past years, the epilogue of the racing season of the ELMS (European Le Mans Series) championship takes place again on the Portuguese circuit of Portimão, in the sunny southern region of the Algarve. Inaugurated in October 2008, 4.653 meters long with 15 curves, the track is the scene of important motorsport competitions, including F1, MotoGP and Superbike. Right here, last year, Matteo Cressoni dominated the race, becoming European champion.

Free practice on Friday and Saturday allowed Matteo and the Iron Lynx Team to find a good set-up of their Ferrari 488 GTE Evo #60, driven in qualifying in ninth place by the “gentleman driver” Claudio Schiavoni. Moderate optimism amongst the team, currently in third place in the overall standings with 51 points, preceded by the Ferrari 488 GTE Evo #57 of the Kessel Racing Team with 63 points and the Porsche 911 RSR #77 of the Proton Competition Team with 72 points.

The 25 points that will be awarded to the winner could turn the situation around in favor of the Iron Lynx Team, even if Matteo Cressoni prefers to avoid early self-celebrations. “The car has a very good set-up” – declared the 37-year-old driver from Mantua – “and Claudio showed to hold a good race pace. We are third in the championship, we hope to keep the position that would guarantee automatic access to the 24 Hours of Le Mans“.
It should not be forgotten that Matteo is the outgoing ELMS champion, as well as the 2021 winner on the Lusitanian track, therefore he and his team certainly didn’t bound to Algarve just for a holiday break. And all his opponents are also well aware of this.
The competition, which will last 4 hours according to the regulations, therefore promises to be thrilling to crown the final ELMS champion.
